Day 1: Arrive in Cape Town

Day 2: Private Half Day Authentic Cape Town City TourThis morning, you will be picked up from your hotel for a half-day Cape Town City tour. No visit to Cape Town is complete without a tour of the "Mother City". Sense the depth of history as you drive past Parliament Buildings, City Hall, and the Slave Lodge before stopping for a short visit to the Castle of Good Hope (optional), originally built as a maritime replenishment station and now the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa! Alternatively, we walk around the Grand Parade square, which has its own historical significance.
We hear of the brief history of District Six en route to a visit to the Company Gardens, where we walk through the landscaped gardens. Learn more about the history of the Bo-Kaap and its people as we move up the cobblestoned hills to the Malay Quarter, and marvel at the ice-cream colours of the quaint Bo-Kaap homes.
Follow the journey of a professional diamond cutter with a visit to a diamond cutting factory. After learning more about the history of diamonds and gold in South Africa, we drive past the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay as we make our way to Table Mountain, where you have the option of either admiring the views from the lower cable station or purchasing a ticket (for your own account) to reach the summit.
After delighting in this photo opportunity, return to your hotel, or enjoy additional time on the mountain before making your own way back at your leisure.
Day 3: Private Full Day Cape Peninsula TourCruise along Millionaire's Paradise from Clifton to Camps Bay and on to Llandudno before an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise. Wind along Chapman's Peak Drive with lunch (own account) at Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park before meandering back along the coast, visiting Simon's Town and ending your day at the penguin colony at Boulder's Beach where you get to watch these entertaining, waddling characters.

Day 4: Private Half Day Stellenbosch Winelands TourA superb day dedicated to celebrating the glorious grape, the exceptional winelands region, and the heavenly scenery! The areas rich with history, and can't help but feel it as move through the region to experience a wine cellar tour and tasting, where you'll learn all about the process of winemaking, from grape to goblet. Then you visit the exquisite little town of Franschhoek, pass by the impressive Huguenot Monument, and in a town with a reputation for gourmet fare. Wind your way to the heady heights of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass to meet the charming university town of Stellenbosch on the other side. Stroll through this little town, absorbing the quaintness, and sneaking into the odd shop or two (on Sundays not all galleries and shops are open)! Enjoy a wine tasting at two different wine estates where you'll be able to purchase your favourite wine to take back home!
Day 5: Depart Cape Town on Rovos RailDepart from Cape Town Station. Trundle through the winelands of the Western Cape towards Worcester. Tea in the lounge and observation cars. Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train climbs ±750m up the face of the escarpment. Around midnight, the train arrives at the first of four tunnels on the pass. The last tunnel is 13.5km long so guests are to be careful if walking through the train.

Day 6: Exploring Historic MatjiesfonteinBreakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. Disembark at Matjiesfontein for an opportunity to stroll through the historic village. Of special interest is the museum on the platform and a collection of historic cars and railway carriages to the right of the Lord Milner Hotel. The train travels through the Karoo, a vast semi-desert region that was once an enormous inland sea. Over millions of years, volcanic matter was ground down and deposited as silt upon the seabed to form what geologists call the Karoo system. Lunch is served in the dining cars. Tea in the lounge and observation cars. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board.

Day 7: Discovering Kimberley's Diamond Mining PastBreakfast is served in the dining cars until 08:30. Enjoy a tour of Kimberley's Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Capital of the Northern Cape, Kimberley is well known for the discovery of diamonds that led to its establishment in 1871. Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels northeast towards the broad grassland plains of the Highveld. Tea in the lounge and observation cars. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board.

Day 9: Private Half Day Johannesburg City TourSouth Africa's largest city remains its financial and commercial heart. It is in this fast-paced metropolis that the country's radical political and social transformation is most evident; this is the Rainbow Nation at work. It is a heady experience, with contrasts of every kind around every single corner. The tour sets off for Constitution Hill, home of South Africa's architectural marvel, the Constitutional Court, and site of Johannesburg's Old Fort Prison (closed Sundays). You will explore the inner city of Johannesburg and the influence the discovery of gold brought to this city and indeed South Africa. You will then visit and explore the Maboneng Precinct, a wonderful example of urban regeneration of the east side of the Johannesburg CBD, which is now home to several independent retail, restaurant, art and entertainment venues and fresh and unique lifestyle offerings of this new exciting development. Return to your hotel via the flipside of the coin, the lush, upmarket suburb of lower Houghton. A city of contrasts, that is for certain.
